Ahmed Al-harary / Dean of the Faculty of Law and Political Science

Description

The Faculty of Law and Political Science was established as a department within the Accounting College, Gharyan in 2000.

That section formed the initial nucleus of this college.

Studies began for the first time in the academic year 2000/01 under the supervision and sponsorship of Mr Mansoor Milad Yunus, and continued until 2004.

As part of the restructuring of Libyan universities, a decision was issued by the Secretariats of Higher Education concerningthe inclusion of the universities and departments in the western mountain region under the auspices of a singleuniversity: the University of the Western Mount (Al Jabal Algharbi). This decision meant the department was absorbedinto the Faculty of Law and Sharia Nalot, which was considered a higher-level college than the Department of Law and Political Science, Gharyan. It continued to be managed in this way, until a committee from the Ministry of Higher Education was formed in response to a memorandum prepared by the then Director of the Department. Once the commission had completed its work, the Minister of Education approved the Department of Law and Political Science as a college that would function separately from the Faculty of Law and religious law of Nalot.

Thus, this college became the first college of law and political science in the Arab mountain region. Since its establishment, the College has awarded Bachelor’s Degrees in Law and Political Science.
